چکیده

Information access tasks involve setting a large number of model parameters (such as term weighting functions or the particular terms from the document collection to use in the model); in addition, information access tasks frequently attempt to satisfy multiple competing objectives, such as precision and recall. We investigate the use of multi-objective evolutionary algorithms for finding model parameters that optimise both precision and recall. We present information retrieval experiments using the TREC 7 and 8 collections for ad hoc query problems and the Cora collection for document classification problems. In particular, we compare the following optimised term weighting functions in retrieval and classification tasks: , , , and BM25. We also optimise the range of terms used for document classification. We show that multi-objective optimisation can yield significantly enhanced performance beyond the default parameter settings and indicates that more terms than current stop-word lists should be exluded. This study shows the wide range of possibilities using multi-objective optimisation for information access tasks.

A Adapting Scientific Workflow Structures Using Multi-Objective Optimisation Strategies

Scientific workflows have become the primary mechanism for conducting analyses on distributed computing infrastructures such as grids and clouds. In recent years, the focus of optimisation within scientific workflows has primarily been on computational tasks and workflow makespan. However, as workflow-based analysis becomes ever more data intensive, data optimisation is becoming a prime concern...

PERFORMANCE-BASED MULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMUM DESIGN FOR STEEL STRUCTURES WITH INTELLIGENCE ALGORITHMS

A multi-objective heuristic particle swarm optimiser (MOHPSO) based on Pareto multi-objective theory is proposed to solve multi-objective optimality problems. The optimality objectives are the roof displacement and structure weight. Two types of structure are analysed in this paper, a truss structure and a framework structure. Performance-based seismic analysis, such as classical and modal push...

Emergency department resource optimisation for improved performance: a review

Emergency departments (EDs) have been becoming increasingly congested due to the combined impacts of growing demand, access block and increased clinical capability of the EDs. This congestion has known to have adverse impacts on the performance of the healthcare services. Attempts to overcome with this challenge have focussed largely on the demand management and the application of system wide p...

Information Extraction from Solution Set of Simulation-based Multi-objective Optimisation using Data Mining

In this work, we investigate ways of extracting information from simulations, in particular from simulation-based multi-objective optimisation, in order to acquire information that can support human decision makers that aim for optimising manufacturing processes. Applying data mining for analyzing data generated using simulation is a fairly unexplored area. With the observation that the obtaine...
